We have a new program on Fridays this autumn: Friday Fables! This program is for children ages 5 through 12 years and begins at 3:30 and ends promptly at 5:00PM, when the Library closes.
The program starts with reading 2 or 3 fables, followed by a discussion of the stories. Librarians will ask questions in order to help listeners make connections; for example, “Did you ever want something that you couldn’t have, like the fox who wanted those grapes? How did it make you feel? How did you react?” Conversations will be followed by a craft related to one or more of the fables we discussed.
September 7th – “The Lion and the Mouse” and we will make a lion with a fall leaf mane, while our mouse will be made with pom-poms and pipe cleaners.
September 14th – “The Tortoise and the Hare” and we’ll make puppets.
September 21st – “The Fox and the Crow” and we’ll use felt, foam, and yarn to make the animals from that story.
September 28th – “The Dog and His Shadow” and we’ll make a dog out of a washcloth, rubber bands, and pom-poms.
We have a really great line-up of fables and crafts every Friday through December—except November 23, when the Library is closed for Thanksgiving. So if you are between 5 and 12 years old, and if you enjoy stories and crafts, then this program is perfect for you!
