May Teen Scene Happenings

May Teen Scene Happenings

May is packed with fun stuff for Teens as we look toward the end of school and the beginning of Summer Reading!

May the 4th (be with you!) brings our first special event: a visit from Solid Rock Robotics. Do you like R2D2, C3P0, BB8? Check out SRR’s Facebook page for awesome videos of their competition robots, then join us to see them at work in real time.

Our Teen Writers’ Group has a special guest leading the group on May 18. Tamara Hart Heiner has 18 published YA and MG books to her name and more in the works. Come experience her program, The Writing Process: A Voyage of Discovery.

Teen Writers looking to test your best, take a look at the NANOWRIMO YWP Short Story May Challenge—A Story a Day in May. They are also running a flash fiction contest with gift card and publication prizes! Rules and registration as well as information on writing and other cool stuff can be found at https://ywp.nanowrimo.org/pages/storyaday

STEAM night, May 23, is all about Forensics. Come experiment with crime-busting techniques and maybe solve your own mystery. It might ignite a passion that leads to a career!

Later in the month, we kick off Summer Reading! May 30 is our preview. Teens will be able to sign up and get started on their summer reading goals (which lead to cool prizes at Rogers Public Library) and dip their toes in the 2019 theme: A Universe of Stories. [Do I mean that literally? Come find out!]

Along with the special events, we have our ongoing programs which will continue throughout the summer months: Monday DIY, Thursday Movies/Games/STEAM, and 2nd Saturday Anime Club. Pick up a flyer from the Teen Scene at RPL to see everything in store for May and beyond!
