The Children’s Summer Reading Kick-off is Saturday, June 2, from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM. This program is for children ages 0 through 12 years and their families. Children under the age of 7 years must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
Inside the Children’s Library
We will make 4 music-related crafts in the Children’s Library, and we’ll play lots of different genres of music in various parts of the Children’s Library including in the Storytime Room.
- Wampanoag instrument – in Craft Room
- Didgeridoo – in Storytime Room
- Maracas – in Tween Corner
- MandoHarp – in Study Area
We will have a special Arkansas music related scavenger hunt!
In the Friends of the Rogers Public Library Community Room, we will play a sing-along movie. Get ready to sing, dance, and enjoy popcorn and lemonade!
Outside on the east lawn
We will play some musical games outside, such as hot potato [using water balloons—be prepared to get wet!] and musical chairs using carpet squares. We’ll also have a “dance station,” where we’ll do the Hokey Pokey, Freeze Dance, etc.
The fourth Thursday of the month is Teen STEAM Night at Rogers Public Library and we have some exciting stuff planned! NWA3D will be joining us in May and June to do some hands-on 3D printing.
On May 24, you’ll learn how to design and 3D print a model – which you get to take home! If possible, please bring a laptop, Chromebook, or iPad for designing.
Ever wanted an action figure of yourself? Join us on June 28 to learn how to use a 3D scanner and Meshmixer (a free program) to create a 4-inch action figure of yourself which you can keep! Please bring a Windows or Mac laptop for Meshmixer. Feel free to cosplay as your favorite character.
If you don’t have your own laptop, RPL will have a few available to use. Or bring a friend and share!
Visit http://www.meshmixer.com/ to preload the program to your laptop before you come in June so we can get creative asap!
NWA 3D has a great list of 3D printing terms to get your cerebrum well-equipped, too.
