National Oceans Month
“The ocean covers over 70% of the planet. It is our life source, supporting humanity’s sustenance and that of every other organism on earth. The ocean produces at least 50% of the planet’s oxygen, it is home to most of earth’s biodiversity, and is the main source of protein for more than a billion people around the world. Not to mention, the ocean is key to our economy with an estimated 40 million people being employed by ocean-based industries by 2030.”

We are all tied in one way or another to our oceans, no matter where we’re from or where we live. The ocean maintains livelihoods for millions of people around the world. We need to create a balance, support life, and the livelihood that the ocean gives to us. The best way to do this is to research ways we can help individually and by doing our part, no matter how small. Here are links to books and movies we provide here at Rogers Public Library that not only showcase the beauty and mystery of the oceans but also educates us on ways we can preserve them.
