Grab your golf bag and head out to your local golf course or driving range because August is National Golf Month. Golf is a great way to enjoy the sunshine outdoors, spend some time with friends or loved ones all while getting exercise.

National golf month was founded in 1993 by the Professional Golfers’ Association of America (PGA). It was created to help promote the sport of golf as an inclusive sport accessible to all genders and ages no matter their skill level.

Many debate the origins of the golf game, however, the modern game we know today originated in Scotland in the 15th century. The oldest golf tournament is the Open Championship also known as the British Open.

 Fun Fact:

The first written record of golf is from James II of Scotland banning the game in 1457. He felt it was an unwelcome distraction to learning archery. James IV of Scotland, being a golfer himself, lifted the ban in 1502.
