Remembering 9/11

Remembering 9/11

There are few dates in US history that Americans will remember more than September 11, 2001. Nearly everyone alive on that day can remember where they were and what they were doing that morning. The images of planes colliding with the towers left a mark in everyone’s memory that cannot and will not ever be forgotten.

For many that day was a scary time where we were left unsure of our National security for others it became a call to service (a reminiscent of the men and women that signed up after the attack on Pearl Harbor. Yet others took the moment to appreciate what we had and began to see how fortunate we were as Americans. We came together as a nation to do all that we could to protect, secure, and serve this wonderful country in anyway possible. While it was a dark day of our past, it has shed a light on protecting our future. As the 20 year anniversary approaches we remember those individuals that were lost that day and the heroes that stepped up to help.

If you would like to learn more about 9/11 we have books and videos that can be found here at the library.

On September 11, 2001, nearly 3,000 people were killed, 400 were police officers and firefighters, in the terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center in NYC, at the Pentagon building in Washington, D.C., and in a plane crash near Shanksville, PA. 18 people were rescued alive from the rubble of the World Trade Center site
