September comes from a Roman word, septem, which means 7. September was the seventh month of the year on the Roman calendar until the Gregorian calendar, in 1582, made it the ninth month.

Tell Your Friends! It is Library Card Sign Up Month!

It’s September, and that means it’s time for Library Card Sign Up Month! It is that special time of year where the library makes an extra effort to encourage people to come get a library card or come back if it has been a while.

If you’re reading this post, it means that you probably already have an account at our library. That means that we could really use your help to get the word out about Library Card Sign Up Month! Tell your friends and family members that now is a great time to get started at the library. You will be helping them and us!  (Don’t worry, you will still be our favorite).

This year we are partnering with the Friends of the Library to offer a special gift to patrons who start or renew accounts during September. They will receive a small tote bag from the Friends with some RPL treats inside. These gifts are limited to one per family and are only available while supplies last.

To create a new account, we need to see a government issued photo ID and proof of address. The proof of address can be anything with the person’s name and address printed together. To renew an old account, it’s still a good idea to bring proof of address because we may need to update some information on your account.

If you have any questions about getting a library card, you can check out the library’s website or contact us at the library.
