Quick Reads to Get You Out of Your Reading Slump

May 25, 2020

If you are anything like us, focusing on reading may have been a struggle lately. With everything going on, it has been difficult for some of us to commit to long books or—even worse—series. Below we have listed some online material that could help you get out of your reading slump. These are a compilation of stand-alone novels that don’t require any commitment and graphic novels that are quick, easy reads.

You can access these titles from Library2Go through the Libby or Overdrive app. If you have never used either of these before, follow the link above or download the app and sign in to get started. You’ll need your library card number and 4-digit PIN number. The following titles are all available as ebooks or audiobooks.

Yes No Maybe So by Becky Albertalli & Aisha Saeed tells the romantic tale of two young adults who get interested in local activism and each other.

In Dangerous Alliance by Jennieke Cohen, Lady Victoria Aston tries to navigate her tenuous social situation with choices informed by her reading habits.

In Let Me Hear a Rhyme by Tiffany D. Jackson, a group of friends try to secure their friend’s legacy by posthumously publishing some of his music. When a rap label expresses interest in making a deal, the group must decide how to keep the secret of their friend’s death.

The Upside of Falling by Alex Light is a romance in which two loners fake a relationship with each other to avoid their friends’ and families’ attempts to get them out of their shells.

In Redemption Prep by Samuel Miller, students from a strict boarding school search for their popular friend who went missing in the middle of mass.

Don’t Call the Wolf by Aleksandra Ross is an enchanting retelling of a polish fairy tale about shapeshifting queens and dragons.

If it is your first time signing in to RBdigital, you will need to register for a new account. All you need is your library card number. Once you create an account, you can access all the material through the RBdigital app. The following titles are all graphic novels that are available through our new RBdigital collection of comics.

For fans of the classics, The Haunted Mansion is the Disney attraction in graphic novel form. There are already 999 ghosts in the mansion, and you have to be careful not to become the 1,000th.

Emma by Lee Butler is a beautiful retelling of the Austen classic featuring the precocious heroine Emma searching for her match.

Cloud Hotel by Julian Hanshaw is a tale of Remco, a boy who was whisked away to the wondrous Cloud Hotel and—despite his upcoming eviction—never wants to leave.

Gumballs by Erin Nations is an anthology of comics about the wonder the author finds in his everyday life.

From Hell by Alan Moore and Eddie Campbell is a retelling of Jack the Ripper’s killing spree and its aftermath.

Please remember that the PIN number on your account changed to the last four digits of your library card number when we switched to our new system in early March. If you need any assistance downloading content, please feel free to call the library. We are happy to help.

Happy reading!
